עלילת המשחק מתרחשת במתקני המחקרשל חברה בשם UAC , תאגיד צבאי-תעשייתי המבצע ניסויים סודיים בטלפורטציה על כוכב מאדים. תחת הנחייתו של מדען בשם סמואל היידן עוסק צוות המחקר בהעברת אנרגיה מהגיהנום למתקן אנרגיה ייחודי בשם “ארג’נט” במטרה לפתור את משבר האנרגיה בכדור הארץ. לצורך כך פיתחו המדענים את “מגדל ארג’נט” שמשמש גם כשער אל הגיהנום. דום סלייר , מתעורר בתוך מתקן בו הוא היה כלוא עד כה מסיבה לא ידועה, ומגלה כי השדים פלשו מהגיהנום וערכו טבח המוני במעבדה. בעזרת סמואל היידן הוא מבקש לגלות את מקור הפלישה כדי לעצור אותה אחת ולתמיד.
